Sleaford Town are back in action this afternoon at the MKM Ground, where they face A.F.C Mansfield in what is set to be an interesting United Counties League encounter.
Following a spirited but ultimately disappointing 3-1 loss to Lincoln United in the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy on Wednesday night, Manager Matt Evans and his team are eager to bounce back and claim some valuable league points.
With several games under his belt, Evans is actively shaping his squad and has already made some important additions. New signings Joe Wilkinson and Ben Ashall are in the match-day squad and are both in line to make their debuts. Both players bolster the team ahead of what is expected to be a challenging encounter against a strong Mansfield side. Late fitness tests will determine the availability of Finley Armond, who picked up a knock against Lincoln United, and Tom Waumsley, who missed the fixture.
Historically, the Green Army have enjoyed success against A.F.C Mansfield, completing the double over them last season with two 2-0 victories. However, this season brings a new challenge. Mansfield have bolstered their squad following significant summer investment, and they’ve shown their intent with recent strong performances. The Bulls are coming off a dominant 6-1 win against Deeping Rangers in the league and a 1-0 victory over Selston F.C. in the UCL Cup. The Greens will need to be at their best to contend with a Mansfield side aiming for the top end of the table.
Sleaford can take encouragement from their midweek performance against Lincoln United. Despite the result, the team showed promise, and with Evans’ new signings, they’ll have greater depth and options from the bench to test Mansfield’s resolve.
The weather has played a role across the league today, with several matches already postponed. However, as of now, the game looks set to go ahead, and we’re hopeful conditions will continue to improve.
I’d like to thank our fans for their continued support, especially the 265 who came out for the Lincoln United game, marking our highest attendance of the season so far. Your backing means everything to the club, and we look forward to hearing you in full voice again this afternoon.
