Player/Manager Tom Ward has been busy over the last week as he continues to shape his squad ahead of the UCL Premier Division North season.

Headlining that business was the return of influential midfielder Joe Smith to the MKM Ground last week. Smith started - and scored - in the Greens 4-1 victory over Raunds Town 10-days ago before subsequently committing himself to the Greens for the forthcoming campaign.

After spells last season with Lincoln United and Boston Town, Smith returns to NG34 looking to add to a burgeoning history with the Greens. Having first debuted with the Greens at Holbeach United back in August 2015, Smith has since gone on to make a total of 155 appearances for the Greens, scoring thirty-one goals in the process.

Player/Manager Tom Ward was naturally delighted to see his former midfield lynchpin return for another spell in Green.

"Everybody knows of Joey's qualities which is why he's always been a popular figure in these parts. I'm delighted he's chosen to come home; he's going to have a big part to play in our success this season."

Elsewhere, winger Josh Doran has pledged his future to the Greens after impressing at step six for Sandiacre Town last season. Josh - son of Greens legend Gary - has been on Ward's radar for some time and will provide the Greens with an injection pace and a quality delivery from out wide.

"Josh is another local lad who's impressed throughout pre-season with his pace and positivity. We've had tabs on his for the past couple of years and I'm confident that now is his time to influence the first team."

Another young player to achieve notable success at step six last season is defender Jack Arbon, who joins the Greens from United Counties League Division One play-off winners Harrowby United. Arbon excelled in an impressive Arrows side last season and lists a further spell with Lincoln United amongst his CV.

"I'm really excited to get going" said Arbon upon signing.

"There is a great energy around the club and I'm looking forward to being a part of it. Having been in and around the play-offs over the last couple of years, I'm sure that success will continue this year and hopefully we can go one step further."

Completing a quartet of fresh faces is midfielder Sam Greenwood, who will be no stranger to those at the MKM Ground following a short spell in Green at the beginning of last season. Sam made several substitute appearances, including in the Greens 6-0 FA Vase victory at Ollerton Town but found his playing time extremely limited over the second half of the campaign.

Now expected to play a much more significant role this time around, Ward was delighted to see Greenwood commit to the Greens.

"Greeny has one of the best social lives of any non-league footballer, but luckily he can play a little ball too! He's quickly settled in and has taken responsibility of making us tick. He's a great lad and an even greater addition."

Finally, Ward also confirmed the renewals of two faces from last season’s success as Ryan Flitton and Latrell Patterson both committed to the Greens for the forthcoming campaign.

Flitton enters his third season with the Greens and has impressed with his application and attitude throughout pre-season. Offering versatility out wide, Flitton is known for his dangerous runs and eye for a spectacular freekick and is looking forward to getting back into action over the coming campaign.

"Signing on for next season was an easy decision for me. There's a lot of potential for a positive season and I'm looking forward to getting started. I hope the 2024/25 season brings more success to this great club."

Latrell Patterson meanwhile will be hoping to continue the impressive form he showed towards the end of last season after establishing himself as a mainstay over the second half of the season. Having joined from Newark & Sherwood United, Latrell also lists a spell with Ilkeston Town and possess a long throw which was used to the Greens advantage on multiple occasions last season.

"I'm delighted to be back with the lads" said Latrell.

"There was only one place I was playing my football this year and that's here! I'm looking forward to building on the back end of last season and hopefully get to where we need to be this season."
